Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Police say they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been applied in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then discovered numerous other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report early analysis suggest the fluid was likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; authorities are currently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have asked to the community for tips.
An important representative commented the vandalism left him speechless and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on online, recalling the killing of nine people by a gunman aiming at individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
